Description
The two-way coil spring finger (SiS®) is the spring-in-spring contact made for spring-loaded connector applications. The photographed form is the silver-plated two-way coil spring finger, with the paired coils arranged so the contact engages the pin in both directions of loading. Wire diameter is 0.10–2.0 mm, material is copper alloy or stainless steel, and size follows the attached drawing and can be customized.
Mating Life and Force
As a spring-loaded contact, the two-way coil spring finger and the single-coil spring contact together form multiple row-shaped deformation contacts (can be more than 300 points). The contact meets a mating-service life of more than 100,000 cycles, with current density and temperature rise close to those of the transmission cable and a mating force of about 10N.
The finger is used in new-energy EV charging connectors, with pin jack sizes of 3mm; 6mm. It is linked to Electric Vehicles, High-Speed Rail, Energy Storage & Battery Testing and Industrial & Robotics applications.
The two-way layout is what distinguishes this finger from a single-coil contact: it loads the pin from both sides, so insertion and withdrawal both see a defined contact force. Plating and base material can be switched to suit the customer's operating environment, and the size can be re-drawn against a new bore requirement. The finger also appears in the company's high-current energy harvesting and storage equipment, from charging base stations to wind generators and power supplies, as part of the same connector family.
