Why board-to-board connector testing matters

Board-to-board connectors consist of a male and a female socket. Because the force between the two halves is mutual, every mating and unmating cycle subjects the connector to wear. Improving the gold plating on the contact surfaces during the plating process greatly reduces this wear and improves the connector's resistance to abrasion.
Plating for wear resistance
The plating process matters. Nickel underplating followed by gold plating performs better than direct gold plating, and a thicker nickel layer gives better results. A smoother connector finish also reduces collision force during mating, which improves overall function. Beyond plating, connectors should be tested during manufacture and maintained carefully during operation, because testing is an important quality guarantee and one of the main ways to prevent premature loss of the connector.
Testing with spring-loaded probes
During connector testing, a spring-loaded probe module carries the signal and provides the connection. It mates with the male and female seats in a distinctive, stable way and leaves no puncture marks on the connector. Serrated probe contacts suit the male seat and pointed contacts suit the female seat, and the head shape is machined to match the geometry of each seat. The probe head has a self-cleaning design that resists contamination, keeping the test free of foreign particles.
The spring-loaded probe module carries current in the range of 1-50 A at a constant voltage. Current flows through the integrated probe spring with stable overcurrent handling and no attenuation.
Testing fine-pitch connectors
Fine-pitch board-to-board connectors need a small-pitch probe module. At pitches of 0.15-0.4 mm, the spring-loaded probe module maintains reliable function and long-term connections without needle breakage, with a uniform service life of more than 200,000 cycles. This improves the test capability of the board-to-board connector.
Connectors that fail functional, process or quality checks must not be assembled or shipped; they are repaired or recycled instead.
