The wire spring jack is a high-stability, high-reliability contact structure used in high-current terminal blocks and connector products.
How the wire spring jack is built
A wire spring jack is normally made from copper wire. Several wires are bent around the inner sleeve, and the two outer jackets are pressed onto the front and rear ends to fasten the assembly into one piece. Because each wire crosses the axis of the inner sleeve at an angle, the wires form a single-leaf hyperboloid with a waist (throat) circle whose diameter is smaller than the aperture at either end.
How contact is made
When the pin is inserted, it is gripped by every wire in turn. Each wire contacts the pin and is put in tension, so the electrical connection is reliable and the gripping force on the pin is uniform around its circumference.
