Coil springs are increasingly being used in the carbon brush devices of motors, and the benefits have won over more and more motor manufacturers. Makers that stick with traditional spring technology will gradually fall behind these more innovative competitors.

Growing adoption

Five years ago, few manufacturers used coil springs on motor carbon brushes — the practice was common mainly outside China, and the Chinese users were mostly well-known manufacturers such as Wolong and Dechang. Most motor manufacturers were still committed to conventional technology and had not yet considered what coil springs could do for motor quality.

Main advantages

Coil springs for carbon brushes offer three major advantages: increased brush life, reduced noise, and a more compact assembly that shortens the space taken by the brush device. Technology-focused motor manufacturers have spent years testing coil springs and confirming these benefits.

Cost and supplier relations

Although coil springs cost somewhat more than traditional compression springs, the difference is small, and many leading motor companies pay close attention to the quality of the accessories they buy. Accessories such as springs are a critical complement to the motor.

A good motor manufacturer protects not only its own product quality and its customers' needs but also the interests of its suppliers. If a customer forces a supplier's price below the cost of producing quality parts, the supplier is left unprofitable — and the motor then depends on a spring made with inferior materials. We therefore refuse orders priced below what quality materials and production costs require, and we never use inferior, low-cost materials to fill them. Ott Spring has focused exclusively on making good springs for 21 years, giving customers the best value for money.
