Description
The precision jack pins are the male side of the spring-in-spring joint, and the photograph shows gold-plated male pins fitted with external canted coil spring rings. Unlike a plain solid pin, each pin carries its own compliant ring on the shank, so the spring-in-spring principle applies on the plug side as well as inside the socket. As the plug side of the joint, these pins are the part that moves when the connector is mated and unmated, so the compliant ring does the daily work of preserving contact.
External Ring Contact
When the pin is mated into a hyperboloid socket bore, the external canted coil ring becomes the compliant contact element on the pin shank, working with the socket's multiple independent wires to form several independent current paths in parallel, with the joint surviving the break of a single wire. Bores to pair with these pins span 1.5–30 mm with other sizes customizable; the pins are gold-plated as shown, with silver contact finish available per requirement. The family holds high contact power density, low insertion and extraction forces, low voltage drop and high vibration and shock resistance across up to 100,000 cycles.
Typical Applications
Linked to medical, telecom, electric vehicle, aerospace and high-speed rail systems, these pins are used where a compliant plug-side contact is needed to hold joint resistance stable over thousands of mate and unmate cycles. For high-cycle EV and rail interconnects the plug-side compliance keeps the joint stable across up to 100,000 cycles, and pin sizes outside the standard bore range can be produced to match a custom socket.
