Description
The Torsion Spring Pin is the male mating half of the SISE torsion spring family. These precision-machined silver-plated contact pins carry retention collars that lock them into the connector insulator and hollow tips that lighten the pin and ease entry into the wire spring socket. When mated, the pin is wrapped by several gold- or silver-plated spring wires inside the jack, each wire bearing on the pin simultaneously.
That multi-wire grip forms several independent current paths around a single pin, which is why a broken individual wire does not interrupt the circuit: the surviving wires keep the path closed. The retention collar also stops the pin from being pushed back out under repeated cycling, an important point in high-density and high-vibration assemblies. The hollow tip trims weight and shortens the lead-in the spring wires must wrap.
Mating Life and Plating
The contact system is rated for a plug life up to 100,000 cycles with low insertion and extraction forces and a low voltage drop; plating options are gold or silver. Multiple contact points give the pin-and-socket pair a high contact power density for its footprint, and the retention-collar pin is easy to install and replace during rework, with the joint running at low temperature rise. Across the family the available sizes run from 1.0 mm to 18.0 mm, working current reaches 700 A, contact resistance drops to 0.1 mΩ, and the bore range is 1.5–30 mm. This pin variant is used in medical, telecom, electric vehicle, aerospace and high-speed rail connectors.
