Description
The Precision Jack is a female socket terminal whose working section is an internal spring contact wire basket. The photograph shows the silver-plated shell with the wire basket inside the open mouth, and the basket is open enough that the spring wires can be inspected before assembly. Multiple elastic gold- or silver-plated wires are woven into the bore at an angle to the sleeve so that an inserted pin pushes them open radially and axially. The basket grips the pin with many wires at once rather than through a single discrete contact.
Each of those wires is an independent current path, so a damaged wire leaves the remaining paths intact and the circuit live. The multi-line grip also shares the load across many wires, helping the jack hold up over repeated mating and keeping the voltage drop across the joint low. The wire-basket structure suits sockets where a compact, high-reliability spring contact is required, and the socket is simple to install or swap during service.
Reliability and Applications
Rated for up to 100,000 mating cycles, the jack keeps insertion and extraction forces low and is plated in gold or silver. The many wires give the socket high contact power density with low temperature rise and high vibration and shock resistance, so it holds up where connectors are cycled and subjected to mechanical stress. Available sizes span 1.0–18.0 mm with working current up to 700 A, contact resistance as low as 0.1 mΩ and a 1.5–30 mm bore range. Beyond medical, telecom, electric vehicle, aerospace and high-speed rail use, this jack is also linked to satellite applications where long service life matters.
